Professional Scholarships

The AHLA Foundation offers professional development scholarships exclusively for individuals who are currently working at a hotel who want to advance their career.

The scholarships cover the cost of professional certifications from the American Hotel & Lodging Association, allowing associates to grow their industry knowledge and enhance their professional skills.

Academic Scholarships (2 & 4 Year Programs)

The AHLA Foundation offers $1 million in scholarships to hospitality students at 2 and 4 year colleges and universities across the country each year. 

The Foundation administers nine scholarship programs, providing awards up to $7,500 for students enrolled in hospitality-related bachelor or graduate degree programs at over 70 colleges and universities across the country. We evaluate applications based on academics, financial need, relevant work experience, extracurricular activities, personal attributes and a passion to pursue a career in the hospitality industry. 

While the 2021-2022 academic scholarship cycle has closed, the 2022-2023 scholarship application will open in fall 2021.

Hotel Cook Apprenticeship Program

Love food and beverage and new to the hotel industry? The AHLA Foundation’s new Hotel Cook Apprenticeship Program is focused on training new or recently hired entry-level culinary workers. Apprentices will be paired with a mentor to learn on-the-job skills during a structured on the job training rotation while also taking related education to supplement learning.

At the end of the program, apprentices will receive a pay increase, an AHLA certification showcasing industry specialty, and college credit hours.

Manager Apprenticeship Program

Are you a current hotel employee who wants to become a hotel general manager? The AHLA Foundation's Lodging Manager Apprenticeship Program might be just the perfect program for you to help you get a fast track to a hotel management position. Apprentices are paired with a mentor and participate in a structured on-the-job training rotation to learn over 120 core competencies. 

At the end of the program, apprentices will receive a pay increase, an AHLA certification showcasing industry specialty, and college credit hours.

Commitment To Advance DE&I 

The AHLA Foundation is also committed to fostering careers for people of color and women to ensure our employees—from entry-level to C-suite—are as diverse as our guests. As the industry begins to recover, we are committed to helping our hotel partners attract and hire diverse candidates for all positions.
